BizAsia Special: 5 Bollywood celebrities who have a passion for art

On the 29th November in the UK National Illustration Day is celebrated. On this very day not only is the artist celebrated but the illustrations too. In the Hindi film industry there are many celebrities who enjoy sketching and creating art. BizAsiaLive.com will take a look at five celebrities who have a passion for art.

Salman KhanFan or not many people are aware of the fact that Salman Khan loves to paint whenever he gets a chance. One could describe his work as larger than life with every painting having some sort of theme or message. He likes to draw faces be it of religious figures or at times his co stars. It is said that in 2008 he painted a huge portrait of his good friend Aamir Khan which had his characters look from the film ‘Ghajini’ (2008).

In a number of videos online Khan can be seen using charcoal to create interesting pieces. While paint and charcoal seem to be his favourite materials to use, he has been seen sat doodling with some pen and paper just like anyone of us would when we’re bored.

Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi SinhaSonakshi Sinha was a fashion student and enjoyed sketching. Little did she know that she would choose a different path in life and become an actress. Still she didn’t give up her love for creativity. In Sinha’s earlier posts on Instagram she would often show the doodles she had quickly sketched in her sketching pads using pens.

Even today in her own home she has a small space that has been designed especially for her so that she can sit down and paint freely. In an episode of ‘AD Visits’ from the YouTube channel ‘Architectural Digest India’, Sinha proudly gives a tour of her little art studio.

Sridevi and FamilyIn an episode of ‘Vogue India’ (2022) Janhvi Kapoor shows her late mother, Sridevi’s Chennai house. It was the first house that she had bought and while Kapoor gives a tour she shows the audience the various paintings her mother had done. During the episode Kapoor shows all the paintings her and her sister Khushi Kapoor had painted during lockdown. She expresses how both the sisters loved to paint especially after watching their mother paint all the time.

There was an episode of ‘Dus Ka Dum’ where Sridevi and Boney Kapoor had appeared as guests on the show. Salman Khan who hosts the show spoke about Sridevi’s talent for painting and even convinced her husband to sneak two paintings out of the house to bring onto the show. She said to Khan that she had used the tips that he had given her to create those particular pieces. It took her around ten days to finish the paintings.

Alaya Furniturewala

Alaya FurniturewalaIn one of Alaya Furniturewala posts from 2020 she showed a piece that she had put together for Elle India. The piece was called ‘A Brave New World’ which she dedicated to all the mothers.

She wrote in one of her posts that she uses fine liner pens and her work consists of very little colour. Her work is very intricate and detailed so no wonder she prefers to use fine pens in order to get the desired look she requires. Most of her pieces feature flowers and patterns and sometimes people. Looking at Furniturewala’s art work one could say she has a great imagination as her pieces are always so full of life.

Although she doesn’t use much colour, last year she did try to experiment by making a colourful flower painting on a canvas.

Tara SutariaTara Sutaria is another actress who likes to draw for fun. On her Instagram if one was to look carefully they would see some of her creations. In one of her posts from last year Sutaria had said how she missed making art using charcoal but she was going to start again very soon.

Her various pieces show cased a lot of skill when using the medium charcoal which at times can get very messy. However Sutaria managed to produce lots of beautiful work featuring the female face, each one was different but very expressive. One can clearly see her love for the medium charcoal and she is clearly very skilled at using them. There are some posts where she has experimented with paint on a canvas but charcoal seems to be her favourite.
