‘Chhaava’ makers to remove dance sequence amid controversy

The makers of ‘Chhaava’, a film based on the life of warrior-king Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje Bhonsle, son of the iconic Maratha leader Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, have been compelled to remove a dance sequence following widespread criticism.

The Lezim dance sequence, featuring Sambhaji Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai, sparked objections from politicians and descendants of Shivaji Maharaj, who argued it distorts history.

Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant stated that the film should be screened for experts prior to its release. He urged the filmmakers to act responsibly and warned that the release could be blocked if any offensive content remains.

“It is commendable that a Hindi film is being made on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, a protector of religion and freedom. Such efforts are crucial to sharing his legacy with the world. However, concerns have been raised about certain objectionable scenes in the film, which need to be deleted,” said Samant.
