Court halts release of ‘Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar’ due to Karan Johar’s name

In an interim order on Thursday, the Bombay High Court has prohibited the release of the film ‘Shaadi ke Director Karan aur Johar,’ which was set to premiere on 14th June. The court found that the movie’s use of filmmaker Karan Johar’s name and personal traits was unauthorised and infringed upon his fundamental rights.

“Karan Johar has undeniably played a pivotal role in reshaping Bollywood and has been instrumental in launching numerous successful careers. There is clear evidence that the film directly references Johar and uses his name without permission,” stated Justice R.I. Chagla from the single-judge bench while delivering the order.

Johar initiated legal action against the film’s producers, aiming to stop the unauthorised use of his name.
