Karan Johar has candidly discussed the sexual discrimination he endured as a college student, shedding light on the challenges he faced due to societal prejudices.
The renowned filmmaker, known for his influential work in Bollywood, reflected on his early years when he was often labeled as “pansy” because of his perceived femininity.
In a recent interview, Johar recalled the impact of these experiences, saying, “Mujhe laga main doosron ladkon ki tarah nahin hoon” (I felt I was not like other boys). He explained that the term “pansy” was frequently directed at him, particularly during his college years in the late ’80s and early ’90s, a time when rigid gender norms were prevalent.
Johar shared how deeply this label affected him, expressing that it “disturbed” him significantly. Despite the hurtful experiences, Johar has since become a powerful voice for inclusivity and diversity in the film industry, using his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote acceptance.
