Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film ‘Emergency,’ set to release next month, has sparked controversy ahead of its premiere.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has called for a ban on the film, which is directed by and stars Kangana as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami criticised the film, claiming it portrays Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who is recognised as a martyr by the Akal Takht Sahib, in a negative light. He also urged the government to take legal action against Kangana for allegedly inciting religious sentiments among Sikhs.
The film centers around the period of emergency imposed in India by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with Kangana Ranaut taking on the lead role. Kangana not only stars in the film but also serves as its director. The cast also includes Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher, and Milind Soman. Kangana’s most recent appearance was in the film Tejas.
‘Emergency’ releases on 6th September.
