On air since 1996
Asian Sound Radio launched in June 1996 as the first Asian radio station in the North of England to cater for the South Asian Communities and is soon to celebrate its Silver Anniversary.
Asian Sound Radio was the VERY FIRST station to broadcast live programmes in the month of Ramadan and play the Azan (the caller of prayer) five times a day in the UK.
Asian Sound Radio was acquired by the Lyca Group in December 2023. It officially started broadcasting under the Lyca Group on 19th December 2023. It was rechristened to Lyca Radio – Greater Manchester in April 2024.
Background
In Greater London, the Lyca Group acquired the frequencies 1458AM, 1035AM and 107.5FM from the Sunrise Radio Group when it went into administration back in 2014.
Lyca Media is the parent company of four radio stations broadcasting across Greater London – Two for the South Asian community – Lyca Radio 1458AM and Lyca Gold 1035AM, a station specifically for the Tamil community – Athavan Radio based in Sri Lanka and an English commercial station – Time 107.5FM for the community of Romford and surrounding areas.
