Indian filmmakers have voiced concerns over the tariffs announced on Monday by President Donald Trump, which target films produced outside the United States.
Trump declared that a 100% tariff would be imposed on foreign-produced movies before their release in the US, instructing authorities to begin implementing the policy immediately.
In a post on Truth Social, he claimed that the US film industry was “dying a very fast death” due to the incentives offered by other countries to American filmmakers.
Industry experts estimate that Indian films generate between ₹800 crore and ₹1,000 crore annually from the US market, making the new tariff policy a significant point of contention.
