Mohit Suri on ‘Saiyaara’: “Flawed, imperfect people make for perfect and complete love stories!”

Yash Raj Films and Mohit Suri’s upcoming romantic drama ‘Saiyaara’ has been receiving widespread acclaim from audiences, who have praised its heartfelt portrayal of two flawed yet deeply compatible individuals.

The film’s music, which vividly captures the couple’s chemistry, has already become an internet sensation. Director Mohit Suri shares that his vision was to present “imperfect people who become perfect in each other’s company.”

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Saiyaara’, Suri says, “Flawed, imperfect people make perfect and complete love stories. Their relationships feel authentic, relatable—and I find myself rooting for them. This is one of those stories that I hope will feel familiar to viewers, like people they’ve known or even reflections of their own journeys.”

With a two-decade-long career, Mohit Suri is hailed as a master of modern romance on screen, having directed beloved titles such as ‘Aashiqui 2’, ‘Malang’, and ‘Ek Villain’. Reflecting on what makes a love story resonate, he explains, “There can’t be a truly moving romance if everything is picture-perfect between the couple. Real love includes heartbreak and pain—it has to stir your heart and speak to your soul. For me, the most powerful love stories connect emotionally because they feel real.”

Suri continues, “’Saiyaara’ is a film that holds a very special place in my heart. The love story between this young couple is both innocent and layered—it’s unconventional, and that’s what drew me to it.”

He adds, “Ahaan and Aneet’s characters are far from typical. They’re still finding their way in life, facing individual struggles, coming from vastly different backgrounds and value systems. On their own, they’re flawed—but together, they strive to be whole. That’s the essence of the story I want to share—and hopefully the kind of love story audiences want to embrace.”

The title ‘Saiyaara’—meaning a wandering celestial body—has also sparked curiosity. In poetic terms, it evokes something luminous and otherworldly: a guiding light that shines brilliantly but remains just out of reach.

The film marks the Hindi film debut of Ahaan Panday and stars Aneet Padda, who won critical acclaim for her breakout performance in Big Girls Don’t Cry. Produced by YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani, ‘Saiyaara’ is scheduled to release worldwide on 18th July 2025.
