The UK’s first and only retro Asian music station, Lyca Gold has announced a special initiative to mark the 90th birthday of legendary singer, Asha Bhosle.
Bhosle got her first major break in 1956 with the hit soundtrack ‘C.I.D’ but had recorded several other songs prior to this. Today, Bhosle is one of the greatest living legends in global music. The winner of several accolades including two National Film Awards, four BFJA Awards, 18 Maharashtra State Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award and a record seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer. She also has received two Grammy nominations. In 2000, she was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in the field of cinema. In 2008, she was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour of the country.
In association with the leading fine dining Indian restaurant and catering brand, Madhu’s, Lyca Gold will replace its regular playlist with songs featuring Bhosle only on Friday 8th September.
The news comes just a few days before Lyca Gold marks its own second anniversary on-air. Since its inception, Lyca Gold has become one of the biggest Asian radio brands in the UK media sector.
